Delta
Tupelo, Mississippi
Delta,
a large company that currently serves the residential market for
manufacturing of
dust collectors,
began as "The Delta Specialty Company" run by
Herbert Tautz out of his single
car garage in 1919. The first product, a scroll saw named the "American
Boy," came out in 1923. Through the great depression during the early 1930s, Delta
focused on band saws. At that time they also created the first woodworking
publication named Deltagram.
Having survived the depression, Delta was a major supplier to the
U.S.
government during World War II. From 1945 to 1981, Delta was owned by
Rockwell and functioned under the name "The Delta Power Tool Division of
Rockwell Manufacturing Company." In 1981, Pentair bought the much grown
Delta Power Tool Division and gave it back the "Delta" name. Delta has continued introducing
innovative power tools to the American market, mostly saws, sanders,
drills and the like. In 2001 Delta rolled out 20 new products including an ambient
air cleaner product line.
Currently, Delta offers a limited line of
dust
collectors sized appropriately for a home or small woodworking shop. The
line includes a few ambient air cleaners, a small add-on
downdraft bench, several bag
or canister dust collectors and even a miniature cyclone separator (included as
a pre-filter for a bag system).
Among these dust collectors and air
cleaners, the most effective products for providing healthy breathing air appear
to be the bag type dust collectors.
